Virginia St. Hilaire

Bennington

Virginia "Ginny" St. Hilaire (Wells), 77, of Bennington, Vermont, passed away on June 6, 2026, following a decline in health related to Lewy body dementia, a disease distinct from Alzheimer's. Ginny was predeceased by her daughter, Angela; her son, Zackary; her former husband, Robert (Bob) St. Hilaire Sr.; and her parents, Adolph and Harriet (Miner) Wells.

Ginny was a spirited woman who lived a colorful life filled with both joys and challenges. For much of her life, she faced mental health struggles during a time when such difficulties were often misunderstood and rarely discussed openly. These challenges sometimes affected her ability to maintain close relationships and express her feelings in ways others could easily recognize. Even so, her love for her children was ever present, often shown through her commitment to providing for her family and ensuring they had what they needed. In her later years, she took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, eagerly sharing their photos and stories with anyone who stopped to visit.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, nurses, and staff of St. Joseph's Residential Care Home in Burlington and MissionCare in Bennington for the compassionate care they provided to Ginny throughout her journey with Lewy body dementia. Their patience, kindness, and dedication brought comfort and dignity to her final years and meant more to our family than words can express.

Ginny is survived by her sons, Robert St. Hilaire Jr.; Dan St. Hilaire and his wife, Michelle, and their children, Danara, Morgan, and Collin; and Josh St. Hilaire and his children, Carter and Anjela. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren.

The family is planning a private celebration of life.
