Philip P. Boshoff

Philip P. Boshoff died on April 14, 2026, after a 20-year struggle with Parkinson’s disease and its complications. Philip was born in Oneonta, NY, on April 15, 1949, to Stanley A. Boshoff and Lucia Mae DiMartin. He went to high school in Worcester, NY, and then to SUNY Oneonta, where he met the love of his life and his future wife, Rose Boshoff, and found his passion for literature and writing. He continued his education at Purdue University, where he earned a PhD in English Literature and married Rose. After a year teaching at Ohio State University, he found a position at Skidmore College and fell in love with the campus. During his 38 years at Skidmore, he became a much-loved English professor and helped establish the Philip Boshoff Writing Center. He retired from Skidmore in 2018. He is survived by his wife, Rose A. Boshoff, his daughter, Laurel Mae Boshoff, and her husband, Jeremy Michael Mercier.
