Bennington, VT

John H. Sousis of Bennington, Vermont, passed away on July 22, 2026, at the age of 59, surrounded by his family. Born in Troy, New York, on June 22, 1967, he was the son of the late Edgar Sousis Sr. and Evelyn Dennis Sousis, one of 23 children. He grew up in Troy and later resided in North Adams, Massachusetts, and Bennington, Vermont. John worked across several industries, including positions at the Bennington Banner, Dunkin' Donuts, and Yankee Dollar, as well as in construction, landscaping, and house painting. He was a devoted family man who is lovingly remembered by his six daughters: Crissy Sweet, Sabrina Ostrander, Samantha Lemaire (Brian), Stephanie Ostrander (fiancé Dillion Foster), Savannah Smith, and Brittany Sweet. He also leaves behind his stepchildren, Anne Seguin, April Seguin, and Brian Seguin, alongside 19 grandchildren. John is survived by his siblings: Edgar Sousis Jr., Larry Sousis Sr. (Karen), Theresa Lauzon (Dack Sr.), Linda Lown (Paul Sr.), and Brenda Brown (William). One of his children’s favorite memories was eagerly waiting every Wednesday for Dad to come home with Oreos and chocolate milk—a simple tradition that became a lasting symbol of his love. He was also well known for always enjoying Pepsi and milk mixed together. John loved his children with all his heart. He affectionately called his daughters “Daddy’s girls,” a nickname they will forever treasure.

In John's early years, he enjoyed listening to music, especially Elvis and old time country music such as Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty Hank Williams Jr. Etc. ... He played Triopoly and Pokeno with his sisters. Some of his family called him Henry, as for him, well, he called himself "GOD". He loved playing Monopoly, and various card games with his nieces and nephews. He cherished playing video games, especially GTA, racing games and Mario. He also loved listening to music and making peace with his friends. Those who knew him best describe him as energetic, funny, loving, and deeply devoted to his family. He had a way of bringing laughter into a room and creating memories that will be cherished for generations. John’s greatest legacy is the love he shared with his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
