Bennington

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Denise Jessing, 46, of Bennington, Vermont, on December 2nd. The world feels dimmer without her bright spirit — a spirit that was wild, gentle, loving, and full of life in a way that touched everyone around her. Those lucky enough to know Denise will forever feel the ache of her absence and the warmth of her memory.

For 23 years, Denise shared her life with her partner, Brian Stevens, forming a bond rooted in loyalty, laughter, and a love that weathered everything life brought their way. But above all else, Denise was a mother first. Her children — Carly Andersen, Charles Andersen, and Brian Stevens Jr. — and her stepchildren Kyah Stevens and Lindsie Stevens were the center of her universe. She loved them fiercely and wholly, always putting them before herself. She welcomed her son-in-law Oscar Alicea and daughter-in-law MaKenzie Caron with that same unconditional love.

Denise’s greatest joy came from being a grandmother. Aviana Alicea and Elena Marie-Skye lit up her world in a way nothing else could. She talked about them with tenderness, pride, and a softness that showed just how much they meant to her.

She is also survived by her mother-in-law Betty Weaver, and her aunt Donna Jessing, who helped raise her and shape the loving woman she became. Family meant everything to Denise, and she carried their love with her always.

Denise had a soul that gravitated toward nature. The outdoors was where she truly came alive — where her free spirit could breathe. Whether she was sitting outside taking in the fresh Vermont air, walking through the yard with the sun on her face, or tending to her garden, nature gave her peace. She found beauty in the sky, comfort in the breeze, and joy in the simple act of being surrounded by the world she loved. The outdoors wasn’t just a place to her — it was her sanctuary.

Her home was another reflection of her heart. Denise loved taking care of her house, ensuring it was always warm, safe, and welcoming for her children and anyone who stepped through the door. Keeping things tidy, cozy, and full of love was one of the many ways she showed how deeply she cared.
